Poirier fought back bravely, but Makhachev was simply too strong. The Russian eventually forced Poirier to submit with a rear-naked choke in the third round.

With the win, Makhachev retains his UFC lightweight title and extends his unbeaten streak to 12 fights. Poirier, meanwhile, sees his own three-fight winning streak come to an end.
